The Old Plough at Egmanton is a lively pub, which is a real centre for the village and is equally popular with locals and visitors alike. Since Mark took it over the pub has been transformed. The bar area is friendly and welcoming with open fires, a snug area and separate games area with a pool table and darts. You will find locals meeting there and sharing a chat over a pint of a friendly meal pretty much every night of the week.

Mark,  the publican, is also the chef, so we are blessed with pub food of consistently excellent quality. The portions are great too, although you would be wise to eat very little before coming to try a full three course meal if you want to finish it! You are well advised to book if you want to eat in the restaurant as its reputation has spread well beyond the village bounds. There is a regular menu with every day dishes at very affordable prices, a great steak board and a specials menu which changes regularly where the chefs can give their imagination and your taste buds a bit more of a work out.

On Thursday nights there is a very popular quiz night, starting at 9.15pm. Paul Crothers, a local farmer with a great sense of humour and a keen eye for fiendish pictures to tax us all, is the popular quiz master and ensures fair play and plenty of laughs. The locals try very hard to beat off opposition from visitors at this event and by no means always succeed.

The Old Plough has special events during the year, which have included special menus for the summer, Christmas and Valentine’s Day and parties to celebrate St George’s Day and New Year among others.
